Yes, a great suggestion. I used to use/mix different types of sheet metal on my '1 in 1'  stompboxes before. I really like the contrast!

OP: You should get a hold of your friend and ask them to let you take pictures of the insides and film a demo. Or ask them to do so before the month is out if they aren't close enough to pay a visit.
