This thread has prompted me to go back and find my first build report.

April 13, 2011

Looks like I have my 2-year coming up soon. Perhaps I will treat myself to a Harbinger or Stage Fright. Or just go back and finally box up that first build I was talking about.  ;D

I refuse to believe you've only been doing this for a year. Your work is too good!

This! And congrats on a very good, productive year! I'm on this for like 15 months or so, but didn't feel I had to celebrate my 'progress' so far....  ;) I'm having a beer on you as I type this Jon, you really impress me with both your work and your drive to help the rest of us out when needed. Cheers!!

Yep. It can't be. I've been at it for what, 1,5 years or so, and still most I do is painting by numbers. Soldering by numbers, I mean.
Congratulations!

This is great. One year of pedal building and so good. If you keep that pace ...

Apparently, there were a lot of us that dug in around the same time.

The board thing is an interesting point.  I jumped in because I wanted 4 or 5 pedals to round out my board.  Most of those are still on the board.  I need to go back and rehouse them in something that looks decent.

If course, I've build a lot more than 4 or 5 pedals.  I just need to reorganize and clean-up all my boards.

You're just over a year, too, right?

Quote from: hammerheadmusicman on March 08, 2013, 04:01:44 PMI opened up the first pedal i ever built recently, it was a fatpants v2, and i still use it every day, and at every gig! But the insides are horrendous! Looks like it's been soldered by a drunk chimp!

I wonder how many of us are like this: We set out to build something we really, really wanted, and then said, "Well, what else can I do?" Surprisingly few pedals since the TTT have ever earned a place on my board, mostly just different flavors of compressor.
Same here, was looking for a good compressor that was affordable, this is how I got here!
Pedal building is like the opposite of sex.  All the fun stuff happens before you get in the box.

Yeah, I started in Dec 2011.  It's been a lot of fun.

You are doing great for 1 year! Wow..a lot of you I must say. I really admire the dedication so many of you invest into this hobby.
I never thought about it until you brought it up but my first build was sometime in the fall of 2009  :-X..where's all that time gone?

Agreed:)

I had flashbacks seeing this subject... i had to go back and check; my first build, the BYOC ODII is actually dated 2012-03-12... pretty close:)

Congrats to a happy DIY year, Jon. And a big thanx to all the facts n help you shared to me and others. Now I'm off to read your blog!

Cheers

Wow! I totally remember when you first joined the forum, Jon. You already sounded so knowledgable that I assumed you had started out years ago on BYOC or something.

I started this around Sept. 2011, with my first build report in Nov. 2011. So what Pickdropper says makes sense. I'm a pretty busy family and career guy, so my time for any hobby is pretty limited. I've actually only boxed five pedals, with three or so (soon to be five) boards in need of boxes.

That said, it's hard to believe how much this forum has helped me to learn in a short time. I guess the inevitable debugging here and there just makes it feel like my progress is so much slower than you guys!  :D

Just looked up my first complete build report, it was Feb. 2012, but considering the planning it took to get that together 15 months was a pretty good estimate! It's been a blast so far, thanks everyone!!!! (anybody noticed how this thread turned all sappy quite fast? Cool to hear how everybody is enjoying it though!   ;))

Happy "birth" day!

Always looking forward to seeing the posts here, amazing how much great work there is here.

It was about 12 years ago that I quit my 10 year stint in electronics manufacturing, and about 6 months since I got the diy stomp box bug.

No regrets, and totally jazzed that my mouser parts finally arrived today so I can start building up some of the most recent pcbs!

Looking forward to posting my first build report here, after like 8-9 boxes now.
always the beautiful answer who asks a more beautiful question.

I remember what kicked me off... seeing a non-MBP La Vache build on another forum (not diystomp or whatever the other one is.) I wanted one. Google... I find MBP, and that he has them on order.

Well, if I'm buying a board, I might as well get a few more to make the shipping WORTH it.

Hey, what do you know, this is fun...

A year later and more than a dozen pedals further on...

Congrats, Jon! You've got an amazing work ethic, considering the amount of pedals and projects you put out  :)
