Buliding you own enclosures

Wanted to ask if anyone here has ever built their own enclosure using either aluminum, steel or both and using a machine such as a brake or something similar. If so, how much trouble was it? Harbor Freight has brakes that are not too expensive. I was considering this for special projects.

The only thing I've done about diy'ing enclosures is having the man running the local "metal" shop (I don't know how it's called in English) building 5 iron (not alluminium) enclosures for just about 12 $. Sizes were 125BB and 1790DD! ;-) I was considering building a simple, little brake for this job, but you can't beat this price!
Maybe I'll post photos of them tomorrow..

diy enclosures tend to have that old school radio shack look.
and if you are afte that look, buy them. they are only $3.50

I built a small box by welding 3/16 carbon steel. It really could have been cool, but the amount of time and effort to make it nice isn't worth it when you can buy the hammond clones pretty much everywhere. Let us know if you get a wild hair and try something new!

A Hellraiser puzzlebox could be cool. With the jacks on the bottom, of course. I'm not sure as to how you could integrate the stomp switch and not have it stand out like a biker in a cathedral.

I always thought it would be cool to cast my own enclosures, done the research but doubt I'll ever try it.

i read about that one. it even has battery decay control to get that sound when the battery needs changing. this guy is obvlisly divorced or on his way to getting served. Maybe he just got out of jail and he had plenty of time to think this pedal through. good lord, "super franken pedal hybrid"

Brian, I saw Beavis' enclosure you linked to. I assumed he used a brake to bend the metal and then just added the wooden sides. It looks nice, but I wouldn't want to do the wood work. Not that it would be all that hard.

I was just trying to figure out a way to get an enclosure made that isn't produced by the enclosure companies (BUD, Hammond, etc...).
