Not to continue the off-topicness, but I'm a huge Belgian Beer fan myself. My favorites that are easily available where I am are:

Gulden Draak
Rochefort 10
St. Bernardus 10
Delirium Nocturnum
Ommegang Abbey Ale
Ommegang Three Philosophers
Chimay Red
Malheur 12
Leffe
Palm

Gulden Draak is my absolute favorite... The beer of Valhalla if you ask me...

Is Samuel Smith consumed at all in the UK, or is that one of the exported UK beers that nobody in the UK drinks?

I drink it over here in the US and generally think it is wonderful (oatmeal stout especially), but I would assume it is much better over there.  Youngs is good from time to time as well.

Not a bitter drinker, but seen it about and is certainly exported

Crikey some of those Belgian beers are... 'tasty'.  A friend bought me a Hoegarrden dark once... tasted like picked compost.  Just sayin  :-\

I love a bit of Sammy Smith's.

Timothy Taylor is also another nice UK brewery worth looking out for.

For some reason, Duvel has never really worked for me, although lots of folks I know love it.

The Chimay with the blue label in the US is called "grande reserve."  I don't know if it is the same as Bleu, but it is wonderful.

I can only imagine how good Sam Smiths is I've there.  I'll check and see if Timothy Taylor is available here.

I approve of the direction this thread has headed. Perhaps the thread title should be changed. Bless you, Belgium.

Nuff Said:

Back on Buggery:

Of the many Brit profanities that I enjoy, lately I've really taken to using "fuck right off". Over here, we have "fuck off", but adding "right" really seems to give it an extra bit of zing that I savor.  ;D

Another favoUrite (tee-hee) is "arsed", as in "can't be arsed".

You'd get attached to it, then they'd stop brewing it for awhile... release a really expensive bottle or two every now and then.... and then eventually re-release it in an ugly-ass bottle with a dumb quote on it:

Ah, I also don't understand Duvel. The "alcohol taste" of that beer is just too in your face for me.

For those who like bitter beers, you should try Hoppus. Perfect for hot summer evenings.

But now that winter is coming, it's brown beers all the way. :)

Btw, if any of you guys would ever end up in Belgium, give me a PM and we'll go for some beers. :)

Duvel needs to be your fourth or fifth beer in a session. Otherwise it's like sipping super-tasty paint thinner.  ;D
