New price is $269. No other specs available (not even what it will look like), but I'm sure it already has a long wait list.  ;D

Wundergussy's comment is the bestsest:

"Wait, I'll be able to BUY ONE? Pssh, to hell with this pedal. I'm gonna go read some threads about the Lovetone Meatball."

I'm actually going to go ahead and say that $269 is probably "about right" given the hype -- 4/3 the price of a top-notch clone and only slightly above the really, um, notorious clones. The used prices will probably be around the price of a good clone.

In other words, I don't think Rocket is completely gouging people like if it had been set at $300+, which is what a lot of people expected. I wasn't likely to buy one regardless, so it's not like I have a horse in this race.

Personally, my next klone that isn't a notaklon is going to be in a 1590A and I will accept no substitutes. That's where kloning technology is at these days, I hear. ;)

Having had a go with a real Centaur. It was certainly nicely done (spooge aside) and in a big ass custom enclosure that surely cost a pretty penny. If it continues along the same lines then I think $300 is fair enough. I'd be a little put off if it comes in a boggo hammond with a MIC 3PDT. But then again, that's the laws of supply and demand. If I could flog pedals for that much, damn right I would.

I have slight issues about when he used to 'find' them and auction them on ebay when the prices were frankly idiotic. But I think now the mystique has diminished and everyone knows it's really got nothing magical in there. Indeed it's a bit of a one trick pony that goes about what it does in an overly convoluted way.

That and the complaint about all the clones during the Klon madness period when he just didn't meet that demand. I don't understand why he just didn't go into production or flog it to a larger manufacturer. Unless it was to artificially drive up prices by strangling the market a la DAM (again I'm not complaining, just commenting). But the market was there for Centaurs and he simply was not making them with no idea as to when he might again. Of course it's going to get cloned. This is where supply and demand worked against him I suppose.

To be honest, I'm bored senseless with the whole thing. I'm just numb to it all now and couldn't care less.

Whew! Now we can FINALLY (maybe? hopefully?) drop the Klon mystique and it will become just another tool that some guitarists choose to use.

My thoughts exactly.  ;)

It's a bit incredible how big the drama at TGP can get, especially over the Klon, but it's not as insane as that HC forum...

But the Centaur is, in my opinion, a pretty cool concept. I think it's fairly distinct as a design, and I personally really enjoy the versions I've built. Brian's mentioned that it uses way to many parts, and that some of the circuit features are unnecessary, but I feel that there's something that works in it for me.

So, I'm not surprised there's clamour, or drama, but it's a little bit silly at this point. The designer guy has played his cards wrong at times, and the silliness has led to an industry of DIYers turned Boutiquers, literally dozens of them including myself. If he had been smarter, he would have contacted Brian about using his layout, and never had to go into this whole mess.

It amazes me that there are pillocks out there that'll pay that for an effects pedal...

...If anyone knows some of these idiots, please give them my number, I've a few pedals I could do with shifting. ;)

Guess I'm the minority but I have never played or much listened to a Klon or klone or whatever. Not really sure WTF it is or what all the fuss is about.

$1200 for it on ebay? yagoddabeshitinme  :o

You're going to need appropriate legwear to get that mythical toan.

woa did I miss something? That's the first time I've seen THAT mentioned. I've been thinking about exploring a SMD version or a clean boost only klon in a 1590a
