Diode Question

I'm building a SHO clone for a friend and I'm out of 9.1v Zener Diodes. Is there anything else I can substitute it with? I have 1N4148's, 1N4004's, 1N4001's, 1N4742's, and 1N5819's on hand and it would be great if I could use one of those instead.

Also, could someone tell me why this vero layout has so little parts compared to the Madbean Slambox (Slambox has 1 extra resistor, 1 extra cap, and 1 extra diode)? I'm pretty sure the extra resistor is a CLR, but the other parts?

As far as I know, you should use the Zener. The extra cap and diode are for power protection. Not necessary, but good to have.

The 1n4001 is there for polarity protection and the 47u cap is power filtering, methinks.  And the 4k7 is the clr.

I don't know about a sub for the zener though.  If you want I'd be happy to mail you a couple tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure a Dude Question is something you have to ask your dad...or maybe it's something you're too embarrassed to ask your dad about.
