Kicad help

Hello again. I am new(ish) to Kicad. I am trying to use a PCB mounted 1/4 stereo jack I bought at Tayda (A-5079) that I can't seem to find in the libraries, so I created my own.
The trouble I'm having is I drew a rectangle around the pads by using a line on all four sides and now the traces wont cross said line. What might I done wrong?

What layer is the rectangle on? If it's in a copper layer that could cause problems. Can you post a screenshot?
