I've had trouble with embedding images from my website (alanp.info) for years, now. I always figured something about my computer was screwy.

TURN ON SSL! I had to go to the settings in my account on my provider's website to manually enable SSL Certification.

If you have your own domain, like me, and can't be arsed with dancing prancing wow-wee-zow-wee stuff, turn on SSL at the very least.

Now all the images in my Misc DIY threads work!

Hey, something I can actually (possibly) help shed some light on!

At the most basic level, Secure Socket Layer (or SSL) is an encyption based security protocol. Essentially, enabling SSL (or the newer version, TLS) gives you an https:// URL, rather than http:// URL. Personally, if I'm on a site that doesn't have the 's' in https, I usually avoid the website and would never consider doing any financial transactions with said website.

Even ignoring all the technically details of what SSL actually is, enabling it is a great tip not just for fixing website glitches, but also a great tip for having more security and privacy for both yourself and your customers, and having a more professional and trustworthy website every small business should have enabled.
