@harryklippton is a bad influence and an enabler. He showed me @Paradox916 made a photo booth for his pedals. I decided that I wanted to make one, my first attempt was not what I would call a success. After browsing Amazon and seeing lackluster reviews and pricing that was all over the place I decided to try again but with some new ideas and only use items at home. The results are way better than I expected and I think anyone could do this. Just a little post processing on my phone and I have some great results. If anyone is interested I can show exactly how I did it.

I'm enabling you so I can live vicariously through your efforts. This one slaps. I need to make one, in about 3 years 😂

Wow, great shot!  I'm curious.

That's nice.

Pedal building is like the opposite of sex.  All the fun stuff happens before you get in the box.

Very cool.....! So aluminum foil (or is that recycled tin foil hats...?) on sides and white paper botom and back?
What lamp specs?

I used a 12"x12" box. I cut a hole in the top to use the led lamp. The build is an ultra Brite white bulb, 100 watt equivalent. I use a piece of paper over the hole to diffuse the light. The aluminum foil on the top and sides is to reflect the light all around. I crumpled it and then flattened it with the matte side out, then reflects the light but helps soften and diffuse it. The white paper on the back side is curved at the bottom so there is no seam from the box. My diy led light in front is also diffused with paper. Use whatever lights you want but make sure they are bright and white, really sterile looking lights like in an operating room and always diffuse them so you don't get nasty glares. I position the front light so I get minimal glare and shadows. I didn't spend a penny on this and did it in about 35-40 mins. Super easy

I wonder what effect the dimensions of the top hole make to how it distributes the light

... my old World of Warcraft mousepad and chipboard desktop aren't what all the cool kids like these days? :(

More seriously, that's a pretty tight improvised lightbox! I like it :D

This is super neat. And it looks really good, too. I love a good budget solution.

I made it a little bigger than the actual bulb. I would make it the size of your light and that's it. Having a bigger light that takes up more area of the top might help but I think brightness might be the bigger factor.

It puts the diodes in the klon or else it gets the ohms again.

Great results. Do you know the color temperature of your light? That can make post processing a lot easier.

:D

I actually need a new one myself. My really nice xrite passport got lost somewhere between my last big shoot before 2020 happened, and haven't bothered to replace it yet.

I need one of these to photograph guitars. Such a brilliantly simple concept.
