Pepperspray

I recently finished building the Pepperspray board.  I like the overall sound, but....  Its a bit thin sounding.  It also has a hiss or hum sound when you turn the pickups all the way down.  If you turn them up you don't hear it.  I swapped the transistors out with different ones (sockets), but the sound and the thinness persist.  I have to turn my amp up to really hear the pedal too.  Anyone had this?
