Have you ever tried cutting near the corners and fitting it together? Do you also cover the bottom plate

I have tried cutting the corners off but just didn't stick with it. I don't know why, I should probably try that again actually. I do cover the bottoms as well because I thought it looked lame with just the plain grey bottom. Maybe if I painted all the bottoms one colour, that's an idea.
