Over Dose - Shout out to The Mule

So this is a BYOC OD2 with a boost. The boost is almost a separate circuit on its own. Can be run by itself or in conjunction with the OD but all the knobs and toggles only interact with the OD portion. Built it all to MosFET specs. Still have to play with the trimmers to get what my ears think they like. I've got it set to the old TS of yesteryear values right now.

Thanks nz. I used Envirotex Lite epoxy.

That's a cool looking pedal.  I love that finish. How do you like using the epoxy?  Do you drill the holes first or after the epoxy?  How did you do the decals?

DUDE. I am a HUGE Mule fan. I love the pedal. The finish looks amazing and I am going to have to find some of this stuff. I just picked up some clear casting epoxy but I want what your using.

I third the Mule! I'm going to see Warren Haynes Band Saturday night! I wish it was Mule, but this band grooves.

That epoxy finish looks amazing. I too need to look into it after I try clear powder coating. I was actually playing on my OD2 built to mosfet specs. I've got the Burr Brown op amp in there right now and really like the way it sounds. Great work and nice shout out.

Geez, thanks doodz. Keysand, let me know how Warren and his boys sound. I haven't picked up his new solo album yet, just haven't got around to it. I don't know who his solo travel band is. Should be an awesome show.

Nz, that is the stuff. I think Parks? makes an epoxy too I've seen at Home Depot that I "think" is the same kind of deal but I haven't used it.

The Envirotex I typically get from Michaels (go on line and print off a 40% coupon for one purchase) or Ace Hardware has it too at a suprisingly good price, at least the one by me. Hobby Lobby has it but man do they mark that puppy up.

There is also a tutorial of sorts at guitarpcb but you of course have to register to get in over at Barry's place.

Decal wise, I have a Mac so I use the program Pixelmator that is more compatible with it. I probably only use 1% of what it could do but I just pull an image off Google Images and play with it in one way or another to get what I want. I used a white back water slide on this due to the dark paint job I used.

I'd be happy to answer any specific questions though so just hit me up. I don't claim to be any kind of expert as a lot of cats use this stuff, but I can sure tell you what not to do  I don't recall what is in that thread I linked in all, but a propane torch is a must to get bubbles out. Piece of cake if you pick one up. Takes 5 seconds a couple of times and done.

Dw, I realized I didn't comment on the drilling.

I drill my holes first and decal it, cut out the decal holes and then pour. If it shrinks the hole too much I just take a hand drill and drill out the epoxy after a few days. Could use a dremmel I guess too. No biggie. Need to be careful still but no issues really. I suppose you could snag that decal some but when you puts knobs, wahsers etc...over the top holes, no issues as it will cover up any little piece you may have got into.

I did do an experiment where I drilled after the pour on a screwed up enclosure. Went well. But, I didn't decal that enclosure to see whether it would grab that decal in that instance. Most do it the way above who I've talked with.

If The Warren Haynes Band is playing in a city near you, GO!!! The show went from 8:30-12am with one set break. Warren opened the show playing three songs solo on acoustic guitar which was a real treat to hear his raw talent on guitar and vocals. The band was absolutely incredible, very tight, very soulful. The call and response interplay between keys, guitar and sax was unreal. They'd often do it over a simple, but groovy vamp and Warren took it inside and out. They played a lot of the new album and a few Mule tunes.

As far as Warren's gear goes, I couldn't see his pedal board, but he kept it pretty simple. The link below is to  a great interview where Warren demonstrates a few licks from the new album and talks about his pedals. He used his rotosphere a fair amount and had some kind of an octave/synth sounding effect. I'm not sure what it was. He played through the PRS and Diaz heads through smaller cabs. I enjoyed the fact that it wasn't as loud as a Mule show, everything was super clear.
