Aristocrat question

Noob alert!  How does the switching work on this pedal?  I'm looking for a pedal that can to go from a light drive and then switch it to something with more gain without a boost in volume.  My Tim pedal can do the light to heavier gain, but I have a big boost in volume because of the circuit design.

You can certainly set up an Aristocrat this way. The way I do it is to have the first channel as boost, the second channel as a light OD. So, if you are playing in channel one, and want more gain, you switch on channel two to have both going in series. The boost slams the front end of channel two, which takes into higher gain.

Balancing the levels is just a matter of getting your volume pots correct.
