OK I think for IC's and transistors I will stick to Mouse, SB or PPP been happy with those so far or maybe not as I have had trouble with transistors. Now I may have answered my own query as the builds that I socketed because the kits came with them work fine those I did not, not so well. So I plan to rectify that. Thanks again.

If you know this then disregard. You can buy J201s in a SMD package and purchase breakout boards from OSH Park or from DIYGP (link is in page header). 2n5457/58/59 are also available. Probably others but those are frequently used in pedal builds.  It's a bit of a pain soldering the SMD Chips to the boards but you won't be paying over a dollar for one.

https://www.oshpark.com/shared_projects/iEpuBg5e  SMD JFet adapters, 35 cents for 3 of them, free shipping. Shipping time can be a bit of a pain (they get fab'd whenever there is space on a panel to spare) but usually no more than 2 weeks.
Alternatively http://www.diyguitarpedals.com.au/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=286 90 Aussie cents for 5, but min 4$ shipping. Good add on item if you're buying something else (like, say, SMD jfets, which they stock!)
