Did anybody here ever build "The Gilmour" mistress? If so, what is the difference between it and the Current Lover 2015?

Pedal building is like the opposite of sex.  All the fun stuff happens before you get in the box.

Yes... yes I did  ;D

Gordo and I worked on that together. Definitely worth the build. The best part is that it runs on the R5106 Reticon BBD. This can be found online for about $5. It was based on the EHX DEM V4.

When I built mine, I ended up powering it with one of the MXR Flanger-type transformers (still have a couple laying around... gotta find a use for those) because I was too lazy to work out a charge pump solution. The build doc has a charge pump provision however... it was quite noisy. Some more knowledgable minds here might be able to work that out though.

The sound was phenomenal! It is not outlandish like some other flangers. It is very fluid and musical. Worked very well with dirt OR by itself.

Best thing is that it can be built into a 1590BBT (tall), a 1590B or even a 125B if the charge pump noise can ever get worked out  :P

Althought Brian's version is probably easier to build since their is a fabbed PCB for it and I have heard it sounds great.... if you are looking for a challenge and nailing that Gilmour sound... go for it!

Totally missed this one. I'll have to put this on the short list.

How loud is too loud?  What?

Thanks for posting this.  Next time I do some board etching, I'll have to keep this in mind.

I have 2 Current Lovers (pre-2015) running at 12v with the MN3007. Had them tweaked for 12v from 9v like a month before the 2015 version came out...

I have a feeling there is less noise in the 2015 version with the extra buffering on the clock signal (from what I remember reading). However, being a big Floyd fan this "Gilmour" etch looks fascinating.

Damn! Did you guys see the pedalboard in this link??? Holy crap! It's made from glass! and all the pedals are themed in the same style. incredible.
I build pedals to hide my lousy playing.

Tasty stuff for sure, hats off to him who makes groovy looking pedals!

was in my list of "will do" but never got the chance to source those 5106 bbd, appart from Banzai at €59.50...

pietro_moog

is this the version with the lm741 in front? or the new version like the ones in the late 90s?
did you try a mn3009 instead on a mn3007? i didn't, i curious.

The biggest difference of course is that "The Gilmour" mistress is based off of the mains-powered Deluxe Electric Mistress, whereas the Current Lover is based off of the battery-powered 9v version of the original Electric Mistress design. Even though Gilmour was known for using the original battery-powered versions, same as Andy Summers, "The Gilmour" mistress version is going to get you closer to the Pink Floyd sound because of the BBD used (R5106). The originals ran the SAD1024 in an odd configuration that I used to think was parallel multiplex, but appears now to be some other strange configuration to perhaps increase the reliability of the delay line?http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=110407.0
Either way, the clock configuration of "The Gilmour", coupled with the R5106 gets you closer to the original delay ranges and sound that the SAD1024 achieved in old EM's. That's why EHX used the R5106 in the first reissues, even though MN3007s were much easier to source, especially back in 2000.

Thanks Lars, that is exactly the information I was looking for!
