Killer response.  I think I need to get some sort of powered sander to get the imperfections out.  Right now everything is done by hand.

Also, what's acid magic?  I just ran out of my bottle of ferric acid and am interested to try something that doesn't stain everything in my basement.

This stuff looks great!  If you ever did Ferric Acid etching on aluminum, can you tell me if this acid acts similar?

I've used ferric acid on aluminum, but acid magic is much, much better and faster.

I'm intrigued by that stuff. I wonder what it is, if it's obviously corrosive/low pH, but does not burn on your skin. Can't be the common acids like acetic, formic, nitric or sulfuric acid. They all smell and would burn on your skin.

It's definetly not this stuff: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_acid

QuoteAs with all strong acids, and especially superacids, proper personal protective equipment should be used. In addition to the obligatory gloves and goggles, the use of a faceshield and full-face respirator are also recommended. Predictably, magic acid is highly toxic upon ingestion and inhalation, causes severe skin and eye burns, and is toxic to aquatic life.

the MSDS for Acid Magic says its mostly Hydrochloric acid with "Undisclosed Buffers". As to what that buffer is, hard to say. I could shove some in a HPLC at work, but I doubt Id get approval for time on the machine for just "I'm curious", plus I have no clue what coil to use with it. Hrm.

Time to dig through some literature to see if I can suss it out!

Edit:
Ok so the buffer(s) contain, at the very least, some phosphate. Thats a start.
