I've had these damn things since I first got into the pedal thing when I was 16 or so. Now I have no idea what to do with them because they somehow became rare in the last few years. All brand new but I have no way of testing them. Suggestions? Anyone really need them?

madbean

They are worth quite a bit. I would hold on to them.

You can use the SAD1024 to build a vintage MXR Flanger.
The 4096 can be used in some vintage delay and echo units although I don't have a list. I'm sure someone here knows.

Zigcat

I'd rather not use them in a build. So many people with sad, broken flangers that could be fixed...

Scruffie

I'm always after spare 1024 for EHX repairs.

The 4096... there's no projects for anything that used it, you'd probably be better off selling it on ebay for someone who needs to repair a pedal or buying a broken pedal to repair your self IMO.

Top of my head I can only thing of the MXR and a DOD delay using it but i'm sure a few other things did.

The 1024s came from RG a long time ago and the 4096 was destined for a Midwest Analog VC delay that never ended up being built. Bought the chip and never made a board.

I just had a quick look, the 4096 was used in the MXR time delay (the cheaper plastic unit of the day) and the DOD 680, I think the 680s are more common.

Ha, you say that, but this is the original price for one https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/6d/54/13/6d5413581faa48834ffdbe81847d6f7d.jpg

With inflation it comes to about  $40-50 anyway depending on the exact year.

I'm sure you're right. I just remember being able to buy them not that long ago for $20 or $25 (ebay). And now they sell for double maybe 5 years later. Not exactly something you can retire on, but doubling your money is always nice.

Really? I got one about 5 years ago and i'm not exactly sure but I think it was still about $35, still a good mark up though yes. I was just pointing out it was never exactly a cheap part to begin with.

It's a CD4013 in my DOD 680, is it possible that they changed the clock IC through their production?

Mine appears to be stock, Motorola IC.

The 4013 is the clock chip, not the BBD...

Edit:The BBD in yours may be an R5101 instead of a SAD4096.

I would sell them while you can. It seems these chips die over time, regardless of how they're used or not used. So they could be worth over $50 a pop, or worth nothing. The longer you keep them, the greater the chance of the latter.
