Has anyone ever used one of these?  I have a chance to get one new-in-box for ~ $90 (I think there is some wiggle room) but it's not obvious to me how I would put it to use.

The same guy also had one of these Fender Classics Series Phasers for about the same price, also new-in-box.

I had one, that i swapped for another pedal, and couldn't find a sound that i could use, for what i do, so sold it not long after. It was useless for my needs, but, that hasn't stopped me building pedals, i can't use either  ;D. I've seen some pretty cool vids with it being used on keyboards, depends on what music you're into.

I remember when the came out. I tried for a while to get some functional stuff out of it. There were a couple cool uses, mainly with delay or a phaser.

BUY IT!!!
Mine has never left my board.

I use mine to sync with beats and just in the groove and jam with. You find yourself totally getting lost in the groove. Kicking in a synced delay effect takes it to another level too. Sooo much fun.

As for more practical or live usage, you can use it as a regular great sounding very tweakable Tremolo.
You can put it in momentary mode to use it for throwing in breif choppy tremolo sounds or chopped patterns.
You can get awesome blippy sounds out of it when hitting harmonics.
It sounds great when you use it with Whammy or pitch bending fx, or even just using your guitartars tremolo.
You can tap in a tempo on the fly and use it for weird intro/outro type stuff.
It sounds killer with fuzz or distortion.

As you can tell, it's probably my favourite pedal.
$90 is a bargain. I scored mine for $70 at a crazy clearance sale and it's one of the best pieces of gear I've ever bought.

To be fair, you could say that about basically any pedal.

I forgot to blatantly plug my Slicer Tricks and Tips Youtube video. It's a wanky title but it shows some of the cool stuff they do.
I suck at embedding videos so you'll have to use this crappy link:
