SAD512 or 1024, which is it?

Also what leads you to believe it's the issue?

If it's a 512D it's not worth trying to replace, it can be done but it's not easy in the majority of cases and replacements are non existant, one of the rarest chips there is.

If it's a 1024 it possibly can be replaced with an MN3007 and some additional circuitry yes. Assuming it is actually dead.

Hmm... the schematic i've got only shows a SAD512D... if that's the case there's possibly a solution (take a 4013 and use it to split the 4001 output in to 2 clock pulses and then quadruple the clock frequency, assuming the clock can cope and use an MN3007 & 4049 buffer) if there's a SAD1024 on the clock too that might complicate matters.

With minimal changes.. you can replace the SAD512D with an RD5106ANP  ;)

They can be found on eBay for about $6/each from the far east.

Ah, completely forgot about the other reticons existence, that's probably a better and much simpler idea.

Its that just plug and play?? What would be the chance to get a fake one on those??
