Hi gang,

I have been on a building hiatus for a good while, its good to finally build and share some pics here again  :) Anyway I did a small-batch of klones for some local customers using the refractor pcbs. Nothing all that spectacular in terms of design but there are 4 of them so more is good yes?

Interestingly I had an actual gold Klon in for repair (blown 12v zener not goo-covered) and got to do some direct comparison with the real-deal. Ones with the 1n270 diodes was pretty damn-dead on in most settings but the one with the 1n60 diodes really stood out on top over the original and others with better bass, even more volume, and natural dynamics. It was a winner. I need to get some more germanium 1n60s and will give them to the owners to replace the 1n270s.

Anyway enjoy.

Super clean looking. Love the name plates also. Looks super pro.

I've been thinking about doing a Refractor so this pretty much nailed it shut. These look awesome! Really liking those penny vein 125b you used.

I have some 1n273s I want to try out in mine--they range from about .26 to .32 in terms of the forward voltage. Sounds like the 1n60s are worth it too.

Thank you sir. Yes the refractor boards are very nice, especially with the matching 3pdt duaghter board, really slick and tidy. There are a few 1/8w resistor slots so be aware. I just tee-peed some 1/4w resistors there, no big deal.

More is good when they look like that! Super tidy builds.
...and then of course I've got this terrible pain in all the diodes down my left hand side...

Pumping it out in a superb way...!

Man this is awesome.  I just learned from you a great way to utilize inline sockets for my diodes.  I never get those things straight when I use individual sockets.  I also agree with you about the 1n60 diodes.  Heaven.
