This is Brian's Pork Chop Suey Cider that I etched and populated. Its a great pedal and has some really nice OD to play with. The clean preamp blend is also a really nice touch and makes me wonder why I never bought a Pork Loin over the years.

When I first populated this I was waiting for the 2N2484's that never showed up (Still fighting a refund from a surplus shop for that) and I stuck some 2n2222a's and they actually sounded great. I did want to hear if the 2N2484's made an difference is sound so I found that Mouser does carry them. Once I swapped out the transistors I really could not tell a whole lot of difference. The 2N2222a's sounded a bit hotter but with playing full chords I was happier with the 2N2484's and stuck with them.

I kept the pork theme and did a reverse etch of some pig art I found on Google Images. I also went with a metallic pink for the pig theme.


Insides are pretty straight forward and I used a Grind Customs 3PDT board to keep it clean. The top mounted jack just barely fit but it works.

I love the look of an etched board. So classy.  I really need to learn how to etch pcb boards. This looks great in and out.  Oh.....what does the curve knob do? Thanks

Blown away with both the interiors and the exterior. My god man I would buy any of your pedals without thinking. Can't think of a better compliment to give. And I do wanna try. Every time you post a build report I am trying hard but my English is not that good I gotta learn more ways of saying that something is awesome ahhaha

Looks awesome! Glad you were able to get those 2n2484s and that they sound good. Sorry I never got a chance to test more of them for you. I haven't been able to get back into the electronics lab since the holidays as the faculty aren't even back yet. Must be nice!

I used to have one of these--I won it in a contest from "What's That Dude Play?" and it was even signed by Joe Bonamassa. He had even marked his settings on it. Now, I don't play the same type of music as him, but the way he set the clean and curve knobs did sound best to my ears. Clean all the way clockwise, and curve all the way counter-clockwise. It made my Mustang sound like some huge Les Paul but with clarity. Alas, I traded it to Jacob for a load of parts so I could keep building. It was a tough sacrifice made in service of the DIY cause.

Just curious, how do you like this compared to a Klon-type circuit? I'd like to build a good low- to mid-gain OD this year and am not sure what's my best bet if I've only got time and parts to do one or so.

Cody, fantastic work.  Clean etch, very pro PCB, awesome choice of components, and those tasty Kobiconn jacks.  I don't etch PCBs very often but this makes me want to start up again!

HAHA tell you the truth, Its been months since I boxed anything up. I really LOVE the PCB population process and I usually etch and populate a PCB in a few hours and then test/tweak/enjoy it before boxing it. I found that I hate doing off board wiring and the boxing process is definitely my least favorite part of this hobby. It is not uncommon for me to have a PCB hanging off my test rig on my pedal board for a month just so I can play with it. lol

I was sick last week and had 4 days off work so all I did was work on pedal artwork and part organization. When I etch enclosures it is much easier to do more than 3 at a time since it takes longer to setup all gear to etch than it does to etch 2 boxes.

I love the look of an etched board. So classy.  I really need to learn how to etch pcb boards. This looks great in and out.  Oh.....what does the curve knob do? Thanks

Thanks, Dunlops states the "curve" fine tunes corner frequencies. Looking at the scematic, its a cap blend between a 47nF and a 470nF caps.

Not a problem, I was excited that Mouser carried them. I don't know how I missed that last time I looked. As far as a compare to a Klon-type circuit, I think that the pork has more gain and a more drastic tone sweep built stock. But the punchyness and clean undertone is just like a Klon-type circuit.
