Standard Wiring Diagram?

Are the 2 standard wiring diagrams just 2 different ways to wire a pedal or does each one pertain to a certain type of pedal?

On the pdf, the first one shows the most typical type of wiring I use for pedals. The illustration on the second page shows a way to wire positive ground effects like fuzzes. I guess I never labeled the second page. Time to update that doc anyway.
