Non-pedal power question

So, I've got an old tascam cassette 4 track that doesn't have a PSU, but I've been using the 12volt tap on my cheap joyo pedal powering thing.  It only draws 100 mA on the 12 volt tap, but the stock PSU for the unit has a 500 mA draw.  The unit acts all screwy most of the time when I try recording and I think this is due to the power situation.  So, I've been looking for other solutions since the OEM psu is ridiculously expensive.  I found this: http://www.parts-express.com/panasonic-kx-a11-12-vdc-500ma-ac-adapter-55-x-21mm-center-(-)--129-005

I don't understand how closely wattages need to match with these things, which brings me to my question.  The OEM PSU has 7 watts of power consumption and the above linked psu has 12 watts, is that an important difference or will that psu work?

I should also say that if any of you have a psu for tradin'/sellin' that would work then I'd totally take you up on it.  I've got some sweet raccoon pelts I need to unload.  Thanks!

From my understanding, the 12W is the utmost limit that it can provide. Your TASCAM should be able to run on that with no problem. What I would make sure though is if the jack is negative or positive centered and if the barrel is the right diameter.

What are the actual amp, volts, and watt needs of the TASCAM?

Are you plugging the TASCAM and pedals both into the Joyo brick? If so, there might be some rippling going on since that power source doesn't have isolated outs.

just a few thoughts from my end...
*) haven't seen on the product page that it is rated for 12W. maybe I missed it. It says 12V, which is good and up to 500mA, which makes (P=U*I) max. 6W, which should still be fine.
*) Nevertheless, I'd take one that has a higher current rating than what you need. If you use this plug at (near) 500mA for charging, it will likely get rather hot and die faster.
correct me if I'm wrong please

Is the original a regulated power supply? The one from Parts Express is not regulated and only 6VA, it may still be under sized for what you need.

Thanks for all the help guys.  Here's the user manual for the 4 track... http://tascam.com/content/downloads/products/319/MFP01En.pdf
Page 15 has all the specs.

m-Kresol - it doesn't say 12w on the product page, but if you zoom up on the unit then you can read it on there.

davent - Here's the original PSU http://tascam.com/store/ps-p2/  I'm not finding any info anywhere on whether its regulated or not.

diablochris6 - I saw that too, and I didn't have a good feeling about it since it lacks some of the technical specs, doesn't really have a specific manufacturer, and the photos aren't of the actual unit.  The parts express one is at least a panasonic, which i guess is somewhat reputable.

Thanks again guys!
