Jubal81's 280Kg Gorilla - DOD280 Compressor.  8)

So far this is the nicest opto-comp i've played. Super quiet even at extreme settings, smooth release when using moderate settings and TONS of squish available.

Also very flat sounding, tried couple OpAmps, very nice circuit to experiment them in too.
My choice is currently the OPA2134, gaves a bit more presence to the lower frequency range and keeps the highs rather natural to how they are at the source.

Thanks to Lyle (karter2000) for the VTL5C2, you've made it possible :)

Jason did a very good job in the power section of this circuit to minimize the chances of noise, sad thing is that i did'nt had those parts under hand and had to sub them. Q3 being a BS250 for classy polarity protection and L1 that i subbed with a 47R resistor is an axial 100uh inductor that can be find for cheap at Tayda... will now stock on both those parts... and use them in other stuff, love what they actually do in a power section.

Also tried a new finish technique, i called it «Squish it and hope!», it's new to me... can't say if it's junk or cool yet.

That looks very impressive, akin to alcohol ink, but different. Reminds me of the cover art for Metallica's _Load_.

The circuit sounds pretty decent, too ;)

No prob! Awesome job on the comp. Going to have to add this one to the list.

i'm loving it, Rej!
will you be starting a SquishCustoms as well? :)

GrindCustoms

Thanks guys, i guess i'll give this finishing thing more practice.

Dunno, but it gave me a «Mother of all Komp» idea! ;D

I will have to try this circuit out at some point due to your discription of if. I love the finish on this and it reminds me of some of those cool wishy/washy shoegaze album covers. Great job Rej.

The more I look at it, the more interesting it is - like it has a story to tell. More top-notch work, Rej! Glad you dig the circuit.

Thanks Cody, «wishy/washy» is quite the noise it was making to try that finish.... i think it's the most random thing i've done lulz. Spray some paint on the bottom of my «paint box» and just flipped face down the enclosure in there and rubbing it quite hard, then added another color and repeated until the raw thing was where i thought.... it could be OK once i'd be done with the whole thing.

So after some red and black and lots of wishy/washy... baked it and hand sanded it with steel wool as usual.

Thanks mate, very happy you've put that project together, now i just need to get the right parts in for Q3 and L1  :D

I like the new finish.  I could see you going in some cool directions with it.

Thanks Dave! Couple ideas have made their way in my mind... we'll see if it can translate in a finished product.

Count me in on loving the new finish! I may have to build one of these 280s myself to see what the fuss is all about.

Leevibe

The finish looks great! Cool idea.
