I know that this have been discussed before, but it's the first time that i run in an issue that could be caused by those PSU.

I shipped a BassDrive to a customer who was entering studio, the drive in question uses  a bipolar charge pump setup. I have tested those pedals here in my meth lab... in 2 of my friends studio... in resume i've tried this pedal in all possible configuration and situation.... i even thrown one down the second floor to see possible failure to shock, no kidding.

I only use TC7660SCPA charge pumps in all my builts that ask one and they are all bought from Mouser, so no fake or wrong designation.

Customer could'nt use his newly acquired drive in the studio because of a faint whinning happening.... that i've never heard before.

So yeah..., what is you guys experience with that?

I haven't tried charge pumps with a 1Spot , but I did see issues with another power supply that I had that was based on a buck converter. It could be an interaction between the clocks. But, I've also seen TC7660SCP IC's that clocked low enough that even with the boost pin used, it was clocked in the audio range. The TC7660H is a drop in replacement for the SCP version and it is clocked at around 120kHz. It might solve the issue in either situation.

Thanks! I'll add some of those in the Mouser cart... and i have to buy a OneSpot and PowerAll too... just so i can verify by myself too.

The Dumberoid is coming back due to whining. I know it doesn't, it'll be a wanky PSU he's using. Though a lot of them won't have it. Had it happen more than a few times. Sadly without a battery inside, there's no easy way to prove to them that it's the POS cheap PSU they're using. It's easier just to return, refund and re-list.

The bugger has had it long enough, though he's demonstrated the issue via video. I'll demonstrate back that it does work. I suspect buyers remorse plays a part, or just not liking the effect and looking for an out. *shrugs* Just glad I don't have to deal with people for a living.

I have a OneSpot I test all my Klone builds with and have never had a problem related to the power supply.  I have had a blown Zenner before but I am not sure that is attributed to the power supply.  It could have been bad from the start.

It could just be that particular build as well.  I have a Divided Octave that whines even with an isolated supply, regardless of what pump I put in it.

The most whining I get is from a daisy chained, non-regulated power supply. That may also be the issue

Customer in question is a DIYer, fellow BYOC forumate and he knows electronics probably better than me. We will run couple tests prior to have it re-shipped here, if necessary. It's him who proposed that we check everything we could before sending a replacement.

Daisy chaining or non-regulated PSU is out of the suspect as the cause, thread title mentions the use of a OneSpot, so.... basically i'm looking for experience of the useage of charge pump based circuit vs digital power supply. And the bassdrive was the only pedal powered by the one spot.

I have a one spot on my board with at least one charge pumped pedal, an analog delay, and a tap tempo tremolo all daisy chained and there's no noise from my power supply or whining of any kind.

Ask the guy if he's running a strymon pedal on his One Spot. That WILL whine. It doesn't have anything do do with the one-spot, though. (Also, the Strymon supply will whine with any gain pedal!)

Interesting.... nothing else than the bass drive was in the signal chain and supplied by the OneSpot.

Probably just janky power. Or a cruddy outlet

Sometimes the one spot doesn't play nice with certain pedals. I had a Morley Bad horse which would whine when connected to a one spot.

Hate to sound like a grumpy old man, but this is why I'm starting to go off chargepumps. It's easier to just avoid the issue altogether.

Admittedly I have a psu with 9/12/15V AC outs I can convert into +/- DC versions of same...

like I said, my Sea Urchin whines when daisy chained to other pedals (one spot does have a daisy chain adaptor). Have him plug one power supply into one pedal and see if it helps. Digital pedals (i'm looking at you Line 6) can be much noisier.

GrindCustoms

PSU was plugged into a Furman power conditionner, it might just be part of this built like some of you guys have experienced with some of your builts.

We still have some things to look at before, there's no other choice but getting it back here.

Considering all the pedals that i've shipped using a charge pump, this one being the first to have an issue, that might not be caused by the charge pump (lol), my faith in them remain strong.
