New Vintage Tube Tester Day!

Heathkit TC-2 with printed manual, courtesy ChuckBuick! Thanks big time Mark, this unit is in pristine condition.

Got it when i came back of work 2 hours ago, it first had the «Set Line» control jammed, now fixed. The plate knob index was unglued from the knob, fixed. The retro lighting bulbs for the tube chart roll where pop'd out of the grommets... fixed.

And the red wire probe was all dried out, replaced the wire with some PTFE 18awg purple, not showing in the picture, going to make a small vid of testing a 12AX7.. shit is badass... this is even more fun than testing Ge with the Atlas....it's HV!!!

The Powertransformer is quite badass.. and seems to be handrolled...and the Astron.. if i could plug in.. it would sound tits! hahahaha

Astron Cap FTW!

That is sick. Nice score, and props for bringing it back to its full glory.

Thanks mate, i'm really happy of this grab :)

I had bought some vintage testing gear previously from Mark.. and had some credits at «Mark Vintage Gear Thriftshop» lol, so i was able to grab this one for really cheap...

It's also all mounted in a suitcase.... i feel like a HV Mafioso! 8)

Kewl.

I missed out on one of those 2 months ago. An electronics professor I know at a local college says:
"Oh I just threw out a Heathkit tube tester last week when clearing out a storage area. It worked fine but didn't think anyone would want it"  :'(

That is something that i'll never understand... that stuff is good for like.... forever..

It was working 40 years ago and still, probably will work for another 40 years...

How can someone imagine no have interest in these, nothing is more reliable than that stuff...

I have absolutely no need for a tube tester, but after seeing this, I want one.

Apparently Heathkit updated the tube info as more tube types came into the fold.  You may be able to search online and find more current info for this tester.  BTW, it looks happier at your place than sitting on a shelf at my work.

The common sub-mini/Thermionic are already in the roll included with it, so that's pretty awesome.

But i'm going to make my self a little book to keep in the suitcase with all the required adjustement to test the tube that i might stumble accross. Been fighting with that thing for 2 hours yesterday, trying to make it work in both ways, seems to just display going «down» the roll...

This morning when i woke up, i did a bit more reading the manual you printed for me (thanks for that bro) and there was a phone number for support and ordering.

So i called! hahahaha... no more service to that phone number! ::) I had to do it! hehe

But yeah, i'll start to hunt the bay and other radio/amp forum to source all those different rolls, that where selling for 50cents back in those days... amazing.

Everyone needs a tube tester. I know I do and that video is not helping any ;)
