Ok so the only thing I found was that in the feedback loop is a 470k resistor instead of a 510k resistor (again I didn't build this it's a friends). Anyone want to explain what the feedback loop does and how this would affect it?

Part of what sets the gain in the input amplifier. 470K is within 10% of 510K and it's doubtful you'd hear a drop in volume because of that.  IOW - 470k is fine there.

If it were me, I'd reflow the solder joints on and around the TL072 and clean that flux off the bottom the pcb with some alcohol and old toothbrush.

Will do, I'll reflow that stuff sometime this week and if that doesn't bring it back I'll order another TL072 in my next order.
