Hey all

My brother has asked me to look into building him whatever fuzz pedal Edwin Collins used on A Girl Like You http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkKxGzm98AU

A little digging around and it seems that it was a Barnes and Mullins Champion Fuzz. A couple of places have say that the Champion Fuzz is basically a MKIII Tonebender or a Colorsound Jumbo Tonebender.

Now I know the world of the Tonebender is a murkey one but I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a decent DIY version of either of these versions? I know that the Pastyface does the MKII but does anyone know of a MKIII or Jumbo build?

Thanks guys

madbean's tonebender is MK1/3. you can build a lot of different versions on that pcb.
personally i would make R10 100k for more volume, and skip R11, R12, C7. you can make C6 bigger, like 10nf, if you feel the tone knob is too bright.

The Champion Fuzz is a Colorsound Jumbo Tonebender clone which itself is a Big Muff-based circuit with the first pair of clipping diodes and the gain recovery stage removed, supposed to sound like a lower gain Muff with kind of a clean blend. There are vero layouts out there, this one looks good:

Yeah that's a great enclosure!

Thanks for the tips, I'll have a search around and check out the Pastyface again.  I'm sure he'll be happy with whichever version I build.

Couldn't you use the Sucker Punch PCB from 1776?

Perfect! I'd missed that. Thanks very much for the heads up!
