Valvecaster - Boost/OD

- PCBless wiring
- Deleted tone section
- Added a clipping section with a 3 way switch: x2 BS170 and x2 1n34a, no clipping and x2 1n914
- 12AU7 JJ Electronic valve

By the moment the lights don't dim.

I have recently been proven with a 12V power supply and sounds better than 9V.

My decoration are very simple: spraypaint (3 layers, it's depends) without primer (in the future I'll use primer), injekt waterslide decal and finally sealer glossy (2-3 layers).

Yep the more voltage to the plates the better, you'll get a BIG increase in headroom going up to 60v using something like this to power them: http://juansolo.demon.co.uk/stompage/schematics/Power/80v%20Charge%20Pump.png

The plates are low current so that's perfectly up to the job and will give 60v from a 9v feed.

Also regulate the 9v input to give 6v and run the heaters in parallel. These draw all the current and either 6v parallel or 12v series is the optimum voltage for them.

Essentially the Valvecaster is what we started with and there's a lot of improvements to be made there. The gain for example doesn't work properly, so you can fettle it to have a proper gain between the stages.

TH Custom's Valve-e-tizer is about as far as this concept has been taken. It's essentially a Boobtube (which is a Valvecaster modded as above) with the addition of the gains for the stages being adjustable on internal trim pots also. http://diy.thcustom.com/valve-e-tizer/ Well worth a build.

I've built a classic valvecaster and another with a built in SuperHardOn.

I'm very interested in the clipping mod. Where did you put the clipping stage? After or before the Vol pot?
