Darkside problem..

Hi All,

I just finished the Darkside project (g-2 clone)
I had some problems getting it to work. The first problem was that the 9V adapter I used first had a 15V output. I swapped to another one wich was 9V. Nothing yet. When I reversed the polarity it worked but the gain is very low. When I turn the sustain all the way open, it sounds like my big muff on 9 o clock...
Can you please help me? I have no clue what components to check?
I did use a 1n5408 diode instead of a 1n5401 could this be the problem?
thanks,

Len

I doubt running it at 15v damaged anything but reversing the polarity on the supply might have. You are using +9v, correct? Have you tried it on battery?

You may need to replace the polarity protection diode and the electrolytics used for power supply filtering due to the reverse polarity.

Also, what transistors did you use?

I have not tried it with a battery..
There IS sound, and the effect is strong enough. It just seems like I can't get the full gain range.
I will try replacing the diode and filtercaps.
thanks,

Reason I ask about the transistors is that if you subbed something different, and they had a different pinout, it would cause an issue very similar to what you are describing.
