The drill trick works really well actually!

I use the drill trick all the time twisting "tie-wire" for tying rebar.
Just make sure you go slow, a drill will snap wores like sewing thread.

Another hint about twisting pairs of cable is to really twist a few metres before you cut it in the length's you want. It doesn't take THAT long even if you do it without the drill
