Hi! almost new here.
I got a handful of 2N5952 left (I've been building phase45 and 90 lately). I wonder if they are a good replacement for overdrives, I want to build some of the catlinbread clones, galileo, dirty secreto, WIIO... or may I go for the 2N5457?

Thanks!

They're a little bit darker than the 5457s, but you may not notice the difference depending on how they're used in the circuit. They're certainly cheaper.

uhmm... If they are affecting the sound in a noticeable way, i rather get some 5457,
I will compare when i make the build,

By the way, should I match them also in this kind of circuit as I did for the phasers?

midwayfair

There is no reason to match FETs in an overdrive.

I heard Wampler does with his...
Dunno if that's just marketing mumbo jumbo

hammerheadmusicman

I heard not that he matches them, but measures then and groups them in gain ranges, for different applications.
I play Guitar, and Build Stuff..

If you "match" certain aspects of the FETs you use, you can confidently solder in a metal film resistor for the drain instead of using a trimpot. This can help with noise. But it only makes sense if you're doing hundreds of builds, and there's no reason to bother if you're using a trimmer.
