Sabertooth not biting

just built up a sabertooth, and it's sounding great, except the bite control is not working - i'm not getting that crazy compressed, gated action.

all built as per the BOM, except 4k7 subbed for 4k99, and 47k subbed for 51k.

2n3904's were from tayda, and I didn't test gains. i saw on another thread, that decreasing the bite pot gave less bite. should i be looking to go up to 1m?
