Issue with honneydripper

Hi crew.

I´ve noticed that my honeydripper doesn´t sound as the original dipthonizer. The two pots and the switch seems to work properly. The box makes different sounds in yeh, boh, wah, and yae positions. The sweep and fuzz pots also work.

I can hear the auto-wah (or envelope). But I´ve noticed that the effect is very subtle. In the samples that I´ve heard of the original dipthonizer, the fx is much more noticeable.

I´ve noticed also, that I hear always the fuzz, rolling the fuzz pot CCW I can hear (slightly) more saturation, but the fuzz sounds as well in CW.

Any advice about where I should start looking in would be highly appreciated.

Regards Folks!

I had the same issue with mine, thoughght the effect was subtle but didnt know what the original sounded like to compare to

Vintageman

I don´t own an original. I heard some clips from internet, for ex:

thanks for your answer.

Hangingmonkey

thanks for the vid link. Yep, mine doesnt sound like that either.

Anyone else whose made the honeydripper?

I'm sure we can track down the issue, but you need to provide more info before anyone can help debug.

From the "getting help" stickie:
(3) Steps that you have taken to try to resolve the issue
(4) List any substitutions you used for parts/values

Also, any voltages you can provide will help us make sure each IC is getting power and doing its thing.

Substitutions:
R5 – 330k
C2 – 1n
R21 – 1.8k
No more substitutions.

Maybe, the first step to take could be socketing R5, C2 and R21 and experimenting with different combinations. I´m always a bit fearful working with 2 side PCB´s, but I´m afraid it could be a must if I want to get the best sound from this box.

I remember that I provisionally socketed all of them long time ago when I finished the fx. But the box has been unused for months, and recently I´ve realized that the fx is not sounding 100% as it´s supposed to do.

Maybe the way to proceed is to step back and socket again R5-C2-R1. Am I wrong?

Thanks Brian,

regards everybody

Vintageman

No way....I´ve tried different combinations for R1, R5, C2, but with no results.

Now that I´ve post some information....can anyone help me to track down the problem?

Thanks guys.

Vintageman

Help still needed, I could upload samples if necessary.

Thanks dudes.

hey vintageman,

dumb question, but do you have the sensitivity on the pedal cranked?

if so, try turning it down about 1/2 way, particularly if you play with the guitar knobs full up.

mine sounds great, but it's really dependent on the settings of the guitar to the sens.

the sounds i think may be backwards from as labeled..and it's a moody thing. somedays bow may sound better than yeh as an example.

but when i built mine, i thought it didn't work. in reality, i had the sensitivity up all the way, and it won't track right like that...will sound more like a wah that's stuck on with the toe down.

turn that down, and see what happens.

also, fuzz before it and a nice overdrive after it will really help bring it to life.

this video is just the honeydripper into a little pos practice amp.

not saying i'm right, just it's what happened to me.
