Distortion + volume output

This is an easy one, just looking for confirmation about my build.

So I built up a distortion + and was testing it and thought I messed it up because I had to turn the volume way up to get to unity.

So I went looking and found a GGG video where he had all 4 lined up (distorion +, dod 250, 250 77, Ross).  It looked and sounded like he too was only getting unity with the volume at  2:00.

For those of you that have these.. does that seem right?

If you used the germ diodes, then the max output level is rather low relative to other designs. You can use a 50k linear pot to get a bit more output, and the linear taper will bring the volume up quicker.

Thanks, yeah I've got 1N34A's in right now. I'll play around with some others (but these sound good).

Thanks for the tip about the pot, I'll see what I've got laying around.
