Hi- I'm new to the forum but have built a few pedals so far.

I'm currently finishing a Weener Wah, which I'v built as per the schematic.

I'v found it quite difficult to find a 4uf electrolytic cap.  I found some old panasonic ones but they had drifted over 6uf.  I have an old German Ero MKT which measures almost 4uf  (3.91), but isnt polarised.  Does anyone know if non-polarised would be a problem?

Also is it worth putting a 100n in parallel since there's space?

Thanks for any advice

3.9-4.7uf is fine value wise and both of those values were used along with 4uf in various vintage wahs.  4uf can be difficult to find.  In the Italian made Clyde McCoys, V846's, and Crybabys a non-polarized 4uf cap was used.

Excellent thanks for the advice.

I'v put the 4uf nonpolarized one in now, and since there was space put a 100n cap in parallel, so its bang on.

I need to pick up a trimmer pot for the peak and I'm done.  Will hopefully test it later.

Many thanks WW

I know this thread is kind of old, but I am building a weener, and did a little searching. Came up with http://www.vishay.com/docs/42042/te.pdf, it lists sprague part numbers and distributor part numbers for capacitors. 4uF caps are 50v or higher.

fwiw, I found these on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Western-Electric-603D-capacitor-4uf-NOS-61-vintage-/230622686851?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item35b22eee83

Also, I read in a few places that Teese uses 10 uf caps in this position, making me think it's less critical to have 4 uf. diff'rent strokes  ;)
