Can i use silicon diodes in zombii?

jkokura

It depends.

D1 on the Zombii should be a 1n4001 - it's a power protection diode. I'm not sure if you can sub just any silicon diode in there, but I would doubt it. If it calls for 1N4001, you should use that one there.

If you need one, and you can't find one either locally or in your stash, let me know. I can easily mail you one.

Thanks mate!

I ended up looking a little harder and found some germanium pairs...

I cant wait to get this project up and running!

I believe you meant "transistors", not diodes. The short answer is you need germaniums. I cannot say absolutely that no silicon would work as I have not experimented. But, a cheap pair is all that is required. There is no vintage fuzz mojo to be had with this one!

I use silicon transistors in my Zombii: BC558's. I saw something about using these in the Fuzz Factory over at FSB. I guess it depends on what you think about hoe they sound. For my purposes, they work great.

crashguitar

I ment how they sound. Sorry for the typo.

madbean

Good to know.

PNP Si may work okay: BC558 as crash mentioned. Others are 2n3906 and 2n5087.
