chunk chunk trimmers

I am building the chunk chunk project and this is the first pedal I have built with transistors and trimmers.

Here are the trimmers I purchased:

Are these the correct type I am suppose to use?  The leads are not even close to matching up on the board.

Nope, not the right type. They can be used, but as you mentioned, the lead spacing is wrong. You could use 3362 type trimmers instead if you can find some.
