$20 for a transformer that can run a tube preamp at ~250V plate voltages from a 12VAC supply. I am seriously thinking about building a Marshall Superlead preamp without all the channels, phase inversion and cathode following stages (one 12ax7).

Sounds like fun to me! If you haven't built a boneyard yet, you should. It would be interesting to hear the difference.

Pretty interesting. I've been eyeballing this slim one for a while. It's similar to what Vex uses in his nano amps. It's $3 more, but it's a lot smaller.

 :o That thing is tiny! 40mm square. That is too cool. He also has a tube preamp project posted using this transformer. Sounds sweet but he adds a third gain stage and a cathode follower to drive the tonestack which I may not want. Too awesome. This is going to be a fun project!
