Boss FB-2 Feedback Boost

Is digital the only way to generate feedback in a pedal like the Boss FB-2 does?

I know there are the feedback loop type pedals out there which seems to be something different.

I found some comments about how the the Digitech Freqout does it digitally. (Also, There is apparently a Fender Runaway feedback pedal that does something similar but is housed in a wah type enclosure.)

I think this is the "feedback suppression tech" that is referenced, and there is a very interesting document that goes really in depth about how it works:

It seems like at least something interesting could be done non-digitally with compression and the mixing of the phase cancelled signal even if it doesn't sound exactly like natural feedback.
