That reflowing with a small chisel tip is the way to go.

Up to this point, I have always used a fine conical tip for everything. Well that works great for most things except reflowing.

....and now I question if maybe a chisel tip is the way to go period.....?

Reflowed my Sharkfin and fixed the turd filtering effect I was getting

I have a hakku as well, may I ask what temp you usually use it at when doing typical fab pcb stuff?

I've been using the 1.6mm chisel tip on my Hakko (T18-D16).  Though, I found this thread by searching, because I'm wondering if using a conical tip or even a bent conical tip would work better...

A chisel tip transfers thermal energy more efficiently and quickly.

That said, many tip geometries exist because they all work well in certain situations.  I have four different tips that I cycle between (and have others not heavily in rotation).
