"Brushed Effect"

Anyone know how to get a "Brushed" effect on a pedal box?

I know that with watches, it can be done with a wheel.  The tricky part will be keeping the finish uniform.

i've had okay results by first sanding with fine paper until smooth, always in the same direction, then using a very course paper (60 or 80 grit) to get the texture you want (sanding also in the same direction).

works quite well but it's labour intensive and pretty dirty. i would also clear coat it afterwards so it stays shiny.
