I have a recipe to mod a DS-1 in the parts list it calls for capasitors of assorted varietys with the little backwards "u"
one of the parts calls for a 1UF (capitol U). is this a type error or does this have a different value?

"U" stands for micro and "f" stands for farads.  1u is the same as 1U is the same as 1uF.   Just different ways of writing them.

You will also see "u" put in the place of a decimal point, which makes it easier to not get the place wrong. For example, a 4.7uF could be written 4u7.  Many, including myself, like this way of notation to avoid mistakes when you have say a 4.7uF, a 47uF, a 470uF, and a .047uF for example.

Same goes for nano farads,just a "n" is used in place of the decimal.   Also for pico farads with a "p".

Well if the guy listed 5 caps as a uF and one of them as a UF, I take it as a type error I guess

That's what I am thinking too, unless he used the capital u to signify electrolytic/film etc. but more likely it is just a typo.
