Just thought the collective would like a peak at this beuty. A local fellow scored this for a song but it was not working correctly. Needless to say I was happy to have a look for him. Turns out it had a corroded slider (tone 1/2) and a faulty stomp switch was all. This one was modified at some point as the original Unifuzz's had a separate stomp switch that plugged into a center input jack. Anyway, fixed it right up and enjoyed some spectacular fuzz. This thing is crazy cool. I don't want to give it back 

He also brought me a torn-apart Danelectro Reel-tape Echo that I had to peice back together for him. I love the delay this thing has, a poor-mans Echoplex for sure.

Sorry man he came and picked them up quick-like. Probably afraid I would get to attached 

The reel echo had 2 pcbs, a main board and another for the 2 footswitches. The main board had about a trillion surface-mount components. I could not see what delay chips were used as some had no markings?

I can say that it has an absolutely wonderful delay and the lofi/hifi knob worked very nice indeed. I would probably pick one up if they were not so damn huge.

Awesome! That uni fuzz is super rad, is it the same as a shin-ei FY-2? I love the build construction on those, so heavy duty..and the way they populated those pcbs..haha

Not sure about that. I do know it is the same circuit as the Univox Super-fuzz except this one ran on AC power. I believe all are in that super-brutal, raspy, gated fuzz catagory (this is good)

Does a tape delay have a delay chip?  I thought it basically recorded to the tape and played back from the tape... Speed of the tape adjusting the time for the echoes?

well the danelectro is _simulated_ tape delay. I'm not sure what technology it's based around but I would say some DSP chip.

"true" tape delay is in fact a loop of tape that works basically as you describe it.

the weirdest delay impletmentation, i think, is the binson echorec, which uses a magnetic drum to read and record. here is it in all it's victorian glory.
