Halving the resistance value of a pot

Hi,
<Newb alert!!!!!>

I've had difficulty sourcing a 5K Linear pot for the Neutrino pedal. The closest I could get was 10K. Is there any way to reduce the value of the pot. I seem to remember seeing something about placing a fixed resistor of the same value as the pot across legs 1 and 3.

Is this right or am I having a brain fart?

Yes, add a 10k resistor across lugs 3 and 1 and you should end up with about 5k.
