Is there anything special about a Wah Pot other than the little black thing on the shank?  I need to replace mine, but don't want to shell out the 15-30 bucks small bear and others are asking.

Any suggestions?

Well, the actual size is one thing--they are much bigger than the average pot. They also have a longer "shank" that the "black thing" is attached to. Also longer threads so that it will clamp into the spot where the old pot was.

So unless you have wah that is different than the typical Crybaby or Vox wah shells then a standard pot really won't fit too well without heavy modding. Then getting the gear attached to the standard pot would require further heavy modding--then I would be doubtful it would hold up to heavy use at that point.

YMMV but I would just save the major headache and "shell" out the $15.

yeah, and the pots are rumored to be different than a normal pot. Taper and such. They're rated to take a lot more abuse than a typical Alpha 16mm, and probably have a longer lifespan.

Get a good wah pot, you won't be disappointed.
