What up guys,

Thought I'd do an interpretation on ZVex's pedal - Instant Lofi Junky
The Zvex pedal consists of 1. Compressor 2. Vibrato 3. "lofiness"

Here's the layout for the final pedal:

In the mean time, here's the Sample Rate reducer with a Blend control:

Check out the video:

It works great!  :D
But I still haven't solved the power supply issue - it currently needs 2 separate 9v adapters.
(Thats why there's an extra cable sticking out!)

I tried powering it from a MAX1044 charge pump but it started "crackling".
Just check the video: (Cupcake on the left)

I'll add one of these when time permits:

Unless any suggestions to get a MAX1044 to stop crackling?

The sample rate reduction circuit is the "Bugcrusher". There is a perfboard layout of it online but I couldn't get it to work so I made my own.

As to the final Instant Lofi, still working on the board layout - but just happy the Sample Rate part is working!

Kind regards,
Matt.

I made a bugcrusher...never could get rid of the slight high pitch whine.  Do you have any issues with it?
Good luck with the build.  Looks great.

Nice Layout! 8)

Much interested in the outcome of this project, will you be able to do sound clip?

To get rid of the pitch whine, if it's occuring when the pedal is in bypass, you have to bring the oscillator to ground when in bypass mode.

To do so, you just link a hook up wire from the IC output to the opposite lug of the Status LED on the 3PDT switch.

I've built couple bit crushers and had that issue and that's how i solved it....

Thanks Grind!  It was not during bypass, just while the effect was on.   I've read this is a very common complaint with the sample reducer circuits.

That demo is epic!  What a fun effect... love to see a copy of your crusher layout if you have it handy Matt :)

Hey Mr Dog,
Don't quite have a "layout" - I just popped it into Eagle, laid it out in a logical way and then connected the lines on perfboard.
I'd suggest using the perf layout online - it was most frustrating to know that it was a verified layout but I couldnt get it to work! :)

No problem matt.  I usually do mine in pencil on paper so they're not much use in sharing either...  was only if if u had it handy :)

breadboarded mine from perf layout online and it worked other than the tiny "whine"   used 2 9v batteries for trial

Made an etch for the BugCrusher:
