I'm looking for MPF102s at tayda and it seems they don't have them.
They do have KRC102 however.

I know that for opamps, the prefix is the brand, and numbers means 'model' of opamp. any 072 opamp could be used for a TL072. Is that the same for trannies? if yes, i could used KRC102 for MPF102s?
thanks in advance..

I don't know the answer, but usually I look at datasheets to see if component X can be a replacement for component Y.

Can I ask what effect you're building?

Looking at the datasheet, no.  It looks like the krc102 is npn transistor that has an emitter, collector and base for its legs.  You are looking for a jfet to sub for the mpf102. A jfets legs would be referred to as drain, source and gate.

I have substituted tayda's toshiba 2sk117 for other jfets a bunch of times with success.  I usually have to twist the legs around to get them in the right order though, but that's no biggie.  Just look at those datasheets to figure it out.

It's needed for one of the three boosters of larevolutiondeux.
The idea is that the designer said he tried several trannies and he preferred MPF102 to J201 in it. So i thought i could buy a bunch of mpf102s and try them wherever J201 are called and see how it sounds.
