Aion ember diode question

I am working on troubleshooting this build. It's Kevin's version of the tight metal drive. What is the purpose of D2? I have no sound on pins 2 and 1 of the opamp. Nothing past the diode, just the pin 3 side. I've lifted the south leg of the diode and audio probed it, still no audio. Anybody have any ideas?
