Anyone now of a diy board for this project, or a schematic?  Would the English Channel on run off groove be pretty similar?

Maybe in sound, but not the same circuit. I haven't seen the schem as of yet.

I've always liked the sound, but haven't seen one in a long time, and can't find much about the circuit anywhere.  I'm building the english channel, so maybe that will satisfy my vox in a box needs

i like VOx amps, i built a 15w head with a ef86 channel and a jcm800 preamp on a el84s power amp.
i really like it.
the thing to me is that the Vox sound is more about a wild el84 based power amp than anything, a pedal won't be a substitution.
if an english channel makes you happy go with god, but maybe a treble booster is enough.
but however a 6v6 amp won't sound like a classic vox.
